Drainage Design Various types of carriageway edge details can be investigated or alternatively a preferred edge detail as indicated in the brief. This is undertaken to appropriate standards for rainfall intensity and storm frequency. The 3D design model in conjunction with contours and flow lines from Moss is utilized to produce a drainage network including all gully and manhole positions. Using Manning's Formula for the flow of water in circular pipes, pipe flow calculation spread sheets are prepared with details of catchment areas, pipe lengths, grades, flows and pipe sizes, together with longitudinal sections and schedules for gully and manhole cover and invert levels. For this purpose extensive use is made of MicroDrainage WinDes MicroDrainage WinDesWinDes from Micro Drainage is the industry-standard drainage design suite. The integrated approach that has always been at the heart of the WinDes concept now has the facility to combine conventional flood prevention controls and techniques with sustainable systems such as porous pavements and car parks, soakaways and swales. Designed by engineers for engineers, WinDes uses proven and universally adopted methodologies to design and analyse drainage systems, including a powerful flow simulation module, and a comprehensive costing and quantities package.
